Things Hidden In and Under ICE and Glaciers

Things Hidden In and Under ICE and Glaciers .
Yes you can find man made things in Glaciers but not artifacts or lost civilizations, in the 1960’s the best way to build a toilet facility was first to blow a hole in the ice and then put a building over the top of it, it was normally very difficult to make a large hole so at times drums of aircraft fuel were used.

It may sound odd but is quite true and you can read about this in “Dog days on Ice”, available on Amazon, after a few years it was sealed and let to carry on its way to create a not so very fresh water Iceberg in the future, this sort of action is now illegal and poop now is I believe shipped out with other waste products.

The best people to make large structures in ice would be James Bond villains, Disney and hotels, the worst would be American military.

An abandoned US military base buried deep under the Greenland ice has now drifted hundreds of metres towards the edge of the ice cap since it was built at the height of the Cold War

The base, once powered by the world's first mobile nuclear reactor, was officially a research station, but its real aim was to launch nuclear missiles against the Soviet Union in the event of war.

Let us hope the military have now noticed that all glaciers move, so building secret bases in an Antarctic glacier may not be the best of ideas unless you want your secret base to be like the tons of Antarctic frozen poop which is still heading to the sea, Ice moves so your base can cave in and then start heading off on its own for a nice swim.

Things Hidden under Glaciers and man made walls in Antarctica

I have noticed some posts where people say they look forward to the melting of the Glaciers in Antarctica so that they can see what is hidden under them.

Of all the places people will be most disappointed with, and it is the ground under glaciers.

There is nothing under a glacier apart from rock and sand as everything on or under the ground would be scrapped away, that which did not get ground to dust would be pushed in front of it and called Terminal Moraine and these can look like artificial walls.
Now if you were playing attention at school you would remember all about U shaped valleys and how they were created due to past ice ages, or Frost giants if you are North European.
Formation of a U-shaped valleys can take anywhere between 10,000 and 100,000 years for a v shaped valley to be carved into a U-shaped valley. These valleys can be several thousand feet deep and tens of miles long, by measuring the depth and speed of movement one can date a approx glaciers age.
Glaciers are also very – very - very heavy so if anything on the ground before the ice it has long gone.
Glaciers will spread out evenly in open areas, but tend to carve deep into the ground when confined to a valley. A variation is referred to as the Patagonia-Antarctica model, attributed to continental ice sheets and displaying an overall widening effect on its surroundings.
