The European Movement's members are fighting Brexit every day Become a one today to support their work and help us get a People's Vote on the deal: JOIN FROM £3 Speaking at a members' event, the former Deputy Prime Minister gave an evocative account of our relationship with the continent and the political journey that brought him to identify both as a European and a patriot in his passion for the European project: SPEECH IN FULL: Throughout history people’s passions have been whipped up to emotional boiling point. Many fought and died for England’s seven Kingdoms. Who today can name them or remember that they were ultimately united at the edge of the sword by King Aethelstan a thousand years ago?  Wales was to follow, then Scotland and Ireland.  Yor...

What if brexit never happened

Image
What if brexit never happened  What if Brexit never happens? What if our politicians never are able to deliver Brexit and end up revoking article 50. Well in this video I speculate the possible scenarios that might lead up to Brexit not happening and remaining in the European Union. Firstly the Tories and Labour would likely suffer heavy losses in both the local elections and the European parliamentary elections later this month. This could force deadlock in the ongoing talks between labour and the conservatives. Labour would look towards a second referendum and the tories would look towards leaving without a deal. The tories might want to oust may which could spark a general election. But even after a general election there might not be a large enough majority for any party leading to a hung parliament. That might mean no majority can be sought in indicative votes in parliament and could result in us running down the clock till the 31st of October. What i...

Brexit has paralysed the system

Brexit has paralysed the system Channel 4 News SUBSCRIBE  680K The urge to leave and the desire to remain, to paraphrase one of our guests, they are both elements of the same country... sometimes even at war within ourselves. (Subscribe: https://bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe ) Peter Oborne and Melissa Kite join the programme. Peter Oborne today published an article that reads like a roadmap to Damascus: "Brexit has paralysed the system. It has turned Britain into a laughing stock. And it is certain to make us poorer and to lead to lower incomes and lost jobs. We Brexiteers would be wise to acknowledge all this." We asked him why he'd changed his mind about Brexit?

Rachel Johnson reveals plans to stand as European elections candidate for Change UK and takes swipe at brother Boris JOE MURPHY     NICHOLAS CECIL Click to follow  The Evening Standard Sibling rivalry: Rachel and Boris Johnson, who support opposite sides of the Brexit debate  ( Dave Benett ) I  would  like to receive lunchtime headlines Monday - Friday plus breaking news alerts, by email Rachel Johnson , sister of Boris, today revealed she is standing as a European election candidate — and took a swipe at her Brexiteer brother. Talking exclusively to the Evening Standard, the campaigning journalist said she will stand in the South West region for Change UK, the pro-Remain party set up by The Independent Group of MPs. She said she was taking a stand against a  Brexit  that would deny young people the freedoms that Brexiteers themselves enjoyed to live and work in the European Union. Ms Johnson said...

Julie Girling MEP Why I won't be standing in the European Elections

22 April 2019.  Embargo: None Julie Girling MEP   Why I won't be standing  in the European Elections    I have been following the online debate about how to maximise the "Remain Vote" in the coming European Elections with increasing dismay. I have decided to simplify the decision for the large numbers of constituents who have pledged their support to me personally by not accepting a place on the candidates list for Change UK. I would encourage my supporters to vote for candidates who have a proven record in the European Parliament and represent a party with a clear pro second referendum pledge. I have been an MEP for 10 years and it has been a great privilege to serve the people of the South West and Gibraltar. I would like to thank you all for your support.
